Overview
Expression Lab ("we", "us", "our") operates the website expressionlab.ca. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit our site or register for a workshop, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.
We are based in British Columbia, Canada. Our workshops take place in Canada and the United States. By using this site you agree to the practices described here.
Information We Collect
We collect only what is necessary to operate our workshops:
- Registration information — parent or guardian name, email address, phone number, participant name, participant age, age group, and any optional notes you provide.
- Waitlist information — parent name, email, participant name, and age group for locations not yet confirmed.
- Payment information — processed directly by Stripe, our payment provider. We do not store card numbers, CVVs, or full payment details on our servers.
- Usage data — anonymised analytics collected via Google Analytics 4, only after you give cookie consent. This includes pages visited and general browsing behaviour. No analytics data is collected without consent.
Children’s Information
Our workshops are designed for youth ages 5–17. We collect participant names and ages solely to assign participants to the appropriate age group and communicate with parents and guardians.
We do not collect personal information directly from children. All registrations are completed by a parent or legal guardian. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent in accordance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
If you believe a child under 13 has submitted information to us without parental consent, contact us at hello@expressionlab.ca and we will delete it promptly.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information collected to:
- Process your workshop registration and send confirmation emails
- Notify waitlist participants when spots become available
- Communicate logistics, venue details, and schedule updates
- Process payments securely through Stripe
- Improve our website and understand how visitors find us (analytics, with consent only)
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for marketing purposes.
Payment Processing
Payments are processed by Stripe, Inc., a PCI-DSS-compliant payment processor. When you complete a purchase, your payment details are entered directly into Stripe’s secure form and are never transmitted to or stored on our servers.
Stripe’s privacy policy is available at stripe.com/privacy.
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to operate Expression Lab:
- Resend — transactional email delivery (confirmation and notification emails)
- Stripe — payment processing
- Google Analytics 4 — website analytics (consent required)
- Vercel — website hosting and infrastructure
Each of these providers maintains their own privacy practices and data protection standards.
Data Retention
We retain registration and waitlist information for as long as is necessary to fulfil the workshop and comply with applicable legal or tax obligations — typically up to two years after the workshop date.
If you would like your information deleted before that period, contact us at hello@expressionlab.ca and we will honour the request to the extent permitted by law.
Your Rights
Depending on where you are located, you may have rights under applicable privacy law (including PIPEDA in Canada and Washington State’s My Health MY Data Act where applicable) including:
- The right to access the personal information we hold about you
- The right to correct inaccurate information
- The right to request deletion of your information
- The right to withdraw consent for analytics at any time
To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@expressionlab.ca. We will respond within 30 days.
